About

Trusted Experience, Result Oriented

John W. Kerns

Attorney, Mack & Associates, LLC

For over 20 years I have been dedicated to criminal defense. As of my last count many years ago, I had conducted more than 60 felony jury trials to verdict in Federal and State courts along with numerous misdemeanor trials. I have quit counting since then. Raised in Kansas, I have strong ties to the Kansas legal community. During my career as a defense attorney, I have represented individuals charged with nearly every existing state and federal crime ranging from murder to low level misdemeanors.

I have nearly two decades of experience providing criminal defense representation for individuals charged with violent, drug, property, and white-collar crimes throughout the State of Kansas. I have utilized and developed thorough and effective investigation, discovery review, pre-hearing and trial preparation and presentation skills, along with extensive and effective negotiation and client communication proficiency.  Also, I am a Federal Criminal Justice Act Panel attorney representing indigent clients charged with federal crimes in Kansas. The Criminal Justice Act Panel is a group of qualified attorneys, selected by a committee of judges and experienced attorneys to represent individuals in criminal cases who are financially unable to retain counsel. I have participated in countless state level jury trials and have represented the accused as lead counsel in approximately 28 Federal criminal cases. These Federal cases cover a wide gamut and include cases such as tax fraud and drug distribution conspiracy, as examples.

Also, I have been recognized by the Registry for the United Nations as a Pro Bono Legal Consultant and served as an on-location Pro Bono Legal Consultant for the “defence” team during the trial conducted at the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in Arusha, Tanzania. Finally, the Registry for the United Nations has placed my name on the Rule 43 List of counsel eligible for assignment to suspects and accused before the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (“Mechanism”) who lack the means to remunerate counsel pursuant to Rule 43 of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence in both The Hague, Netherlands Branch and the Arusha, Tanzania Branch.
